From Soundview to City Hall, Amanda Farías’ story is one of service, resilience, and community empowerment.
Amanda Farías is a proud Bronx native and the first Latina Majority Leader of the New York City Council. Born and raised in Soundview, Amanda is a second-generation Afro-Latina of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent. Her roots in District 18 shaped her passion for public service and her mission to uplift working-class families.
With a history of fighting for equity, housing stability, and educational opportunities, Amanda has become a champion for the people. As Chair of the Committee on Economic Development, she has passed transformative legislation that protects local jobs, supports small businesses, and promotes equitable transit access.
Delivered over $60 million in funding during her first term.
Spearheaded housing projects, creating over 1,600 affordable units.
Established groundbreaking programs like discounted NYC Ferry fares and food security initiatives.
